Questions To Ask of Any Reputable Contractor

The difference in costs is often due to the variable ways a contractor runs the business. If you are interested in knowing more about your contractor, you may want to ask some of the following questions.

Are the people working with you employees or subcontractors?
     At L.A.P.D, we use only employees. Employees are required to follow company standards and guidelines. They are covered by company insurance polices and they have a vested interest (401K Retirement and Profit Sharing) in the future of our company. Subcontractors are responsible only to themselves.

Are you fully insured?
     L.A.P.D. Carries Public Liability, Property Damage Liability, and Damage to the Property of Others in care of L.A.P.D. Workers Compensation and Auto Insurance.

How do you dispose of Hazardous Waste?
     L.A.P.D. is a licensed generator of hazardous waste. We do recycle paint and thinner. However, we also pay to dispose of it properly when its life expectancy is used up. Our EPA number is available to you. Ask to see their EPA number.

Do you pay both state and federal taxes?
     Many painting contractors run a cash operation and pay no taxes. L.A.P.D. is a registered corporation paying both state and federal taxes. We do feel state and federal taxes are excessive, particularly on small business. We do not feel going underground and paying no taxes is the solution. L.A.P.D. has a vested interest in our community we understand the need for taxation. Simply ask to whom you will be making the check out to. If you make the check out to an individual, in most cases this person will not be paying taxes.

How long will the job take?
     Once we start your project we will be there every day eight hours per day with appropriate manpower (1-10) to complete your project in a timely fashion. Many contractors are overcommitted and understaffed, resulting in rushed jobs and long delays for their customers.

Do you know the best methods of application and use the best products?
     L.A.P.D., is a member of the Painting & Decorating Contractors of America. Through magazine bulletins and monthly seminars we can stay up to date on the latest methods and materials as well as time-tested practices.
